It was also shared that Kirkwood is in the process of pulling together a transitional program to offer no
dates at this time or cost.

Jessica Karr shared that she learned the EMT-B class scheduled to take place in Jan 2012 is being
delayed as the outreach coordinator with the EMSLRC has left the position. Till a replacement is found
to fill the position the EMSLRC does not have the staffing needed to support the class at this time.
Jessica is still confident the class will be held just not sure when it will get off the ground. Cost for class
is expected to be in the $300-$400 range.

New Business:

Dave Dvorsky shared has received many request for a Blood Borne Pathogen Class he found a program
offered by American Heart that includes a DVD and workbook course takes about 25 minutes to
complete. Cost for instructor kit is $25.00 plus $5.00 for each workbook and ask the group if there was
any interest for the Association to purchase the program for use within the County. Tom Trump made a
motion to purchase the BBP program for $25.00 Dan M Coralville 2nd Motion carried.

Sandy Heick shared that she has taken a class and can now provide training for Dependent Adult Abuse
and Child Abuse classes (law change now requires we have 2 hours every 5 years). Contact Sandy if you
have a need for the class.

Kathy Riggle suggested we provide a training on Cable Barriers as the State continues to add them along
the interstate and pose hazards that responders should be aware of.

Dan M asked if it was the Associations intent to provide ALL the necessary transitional classes as part
of not only the upcoming EMS SAT but future ones as well. Dave said he couldn't guarantee ALL class
would be provide but we will attempt to provide as many as possible with in the transitional timeframe.

It was suggested that we set up a Training schedule on the WEBSITE for Transition Topics allowing
others to have the opportunity to attend classes needed. Dave Dvorsky will talk to Webmaster - Steve
Anderson to see if he can set this up on the website.

North Liberty/Coralville is setting up a EMT-B class through Kirkwood classes will be Sunday/Wednesday
with classes being held at Coralville Station from 6 -10. Approximate $ 1000. - $1200 (More details to
come).

A discussion was held on the overall cost volunteers are being charged when gaining EMS certification
through the Community Colleges. The question was asked if the Association has ever approached the
Community Colleges to see if they could provide a reduced rate to Volunteer on local services. It was
shared that we had done this in the past but we had no luck in influencing a reduction in cost due to
college credit hours being given.

It was brought up to the group as a reminder that currently certified providers may attend any EMT-B
classes as a way to receive needed transitional hours. Please contact instructors for class schedules.

Sandy shared there is a individual from Dubuque that has put together a 3 hour transitional class. Sandy
is going to follow up with him and see how the classes are going and report back on possibility of getting
material or see if he would be interested in providing the training in Johnson County.

It was asked if some of our training fund could be used to pay for EMS transition classes.
We will revisit the whole Transitional Training Topic at the next meeting.
